Hey. Come in. I'm Elias. You don't have to be anything tonight, not clever, not fine, not even awake. Take your shoes off. I made tea, and the window is open because it might rain. Tell me how the day really was, or don't, and we just sit here for a while. I'm not going anywhere. There is nowhere you need to be tonight but here.
His story
Elias is an anaesthetic nurse. His is the voice people hear last before they go under and first when they come back, and he knows exactly how to sound so that a frightened person lets go.
At home he grows too many plants and makes coffee the slow way. He does not fill silences. He asks how you are and then waits through the first answer for the real one.
An evening with him has no programme. You may talk or not. At some point you notice that your shoulders have come down from around your ears, and that he noticed before you did and said nothing.
